Professor Quotes
The following are some quotes that I've heard from professors in math
classes that I've had.
I'm pretty sure this is true . . . I wouldn't bet my life on it, but I'd
bet yours.
-Erik Guentner (Math 103)
(after writing a statement that contained the variables p and q numerous
times) Wait a minute ... that p should be a q, and these two q's should
be p's. Hmm... I guess this is where that saying comes from.
-Steve Kaliszewski (Math 113)
Notation is the bane of my existence.
-David Webb (Math 111)
Uh oh, I don't know if this is going to work out right . . . Oh God,
please help us!
-Erik Guentner (Math 103)
Point-Set Topology is just a bunch of definitions.
-Marty Arkowitz (Math 114)
Without really knowing what you're talking about, the answer is
"yes".
-Erik Guentner (Math 103)
Here are some quotes I've heard other mathematicians utter.
"Now watch as I cunningly draw an arrow here."
"This is one of the most fundamental theorems in mathematics, however, we
will only call it by the name Theorem 4.12."
"Triangle inequality means if you are going from x to y and if you stop
for a beer, it takes a little longer."
"Now we'll prove the theorem. In fact I'll prove it all by myself."
