Analysis Research Group

Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems

Dr. Mike Field
Ph.D., University of Warwick, 1970
M.A., University of Cambridge, 1968
B.Sc., University of Cambridge, 1967
(Curriculum Vita)

Dr. Field has been a professor at the University of Houston since 1992. Since 1994 he has been supported by NSF, ARP, and/or ONR as well as several UK grants. Dr. Field's research interests include ergodic theory (particularly mixing properties for flows), coupled cell systems, and the geometric theory of dynamical systems with symmetry. He is also the author of several books and monographs.

His other interests include Mathematical education and public attitudes towards mathematics, and he has been an active participant in the Houston Teachers Institute since its inception in 1998.

Dr. Matt Nicol
Ph.D., Stanford, 1992
B.A.(Hons), Sydney University, 1986
B.Sc., Sydney University, 1985
(List of publications)

Dr. Nicol is a professor at the University of Houston and has been the recipient of several NSF grants. Dr. Nicol's interests include Ergodic theory of group extensions and geometric rigidity, ergodic theory of hyperbolic dynamical systems, dynamics of skew products and iterated function systems, and equivariant dynamical systems. There is a description of these topics on Dr. Nicol's webpage.

Dr. Andrew Török
Ph.D., Pennsylvania State University, 1995
M.S., University of Bucharest, Romania, 1986
B.S., University of Timisoara, Romania, 1985
(Curriculum Vita)

Dr. Török is a professor at the University of Houston. His research interests include ergodic theory and dynamical systems, stochastic processes, and operator algebras.
