An Alternative Characterization and Generalization of the Fourier Transform

May 8, 2015
1pm, 646 PGH

Abstract

The Fourier transform can be uniquely realized as a nonzero multiplicative linear functional on L1(R). In this talk, we present an alternative characterization of the Fourier transform in terms of the Gaussian. From this characterization, we devise a family of integral transforms which generalize the Fourier transform and share many of the same properties.
