Quantum metrics and quantum error correction
February 6, 2015 1pm, 646 PGH
Abstract
The classical problem of error correction in a transmitted message
can be approached via metric ideas --- as more data is corrupted,
the message moves farther away from its original state. For
information encoded in a quantum mechanical state we have a
notion of a quantum metric which plays an analogous role.
These ideas fit in with, and extend, the recently developed
interpretation of operator systems as noncommutative graphs in the
quantum information setting.
