Department of Mathematics - University of Houston
Degree Requirements
The department offers two degrees in mathematics, the Bachelor of Arts degree and the Bachelor of Science degree.
An entering student with a strong mathematics background is encouraged to take advanced placement tests, since high scores on these examinations may exempt students from certain freshman courses.
Mathematics majors are expected to exhibit progress toward a degree. Students with less than a 2.50 cumulative grade point average in mathematics courses taken at the University of Houston are advised to consider choosing a different major. In order to graduate with a degree in mathematics, both the student's overall grade point average and his or her grade point average in mathematics must be at least 2.0.
An official degree plan should be completed during the second semester of the sophomore year or the first semester of the junior year.
The Department of Mathematics offers several courses for which mathematics majors may not receive credit. Consult the mathematics course descriptions in the Undergraduate Catalog.
