Financial Support
There are three main sources of support available to undergraduate students in the Department of Mathematics:
General scholarship information can be obtained by contacting the UH Financial Aid Office. The Department of Mathematics annually awards two scholarships, the Charles P. Benner Scholarship and the Blanche Grover Scholarship, to advanced undergraduate math majors selected by a committee of faculty members.
A variety of student loans are available. Information can be obtained by contacting the UH Financial Aid Office.
Graders / Teaching Assistants / MathLab
Undergraduates with a substantial number of hours in mathematics may be employed as graders or teaching assistants. Applications can be obtained at the main office in room 651 PGH. Priority is given to students majoring in mathematics. In order to qualify for a waiver of out of state tuition rates, teaching assistants, graders, and tutors must be employed 20 hours per week and they must be either majoring or minoring in Mathematics. Mathematics minors must have a previously approved minor plan on file with the Department of Mathematics.
The MathLab facility operated by the Department of Mathematics also employs qualified undergraduates as tutors. Additional information is available at the main office.
