Survey of Undergraduate Mathematics (Math 4389) --- INFORMATION ON THE FINAL EXAM/MAJOR FIELD TEST

Some information on the final exam, if any, may be found in: the syllabus/class policies.

Instead of a final you are required to take the Major Field Test in Mathematics at the end of the semester. This will take place at the UH testing center , where you can also register/make an appointment. DATES: May 1--3 (Wed-Fri) I believe. There is a fee (around \$40 or less) for taking the Major Field Test, which you pay when registering for it. Hopefully this expense is defrayed by not having to purchase a text book for the course. This is a national standardized test which we do not host, so if you pay for the test but miss the testing appointment for any reason, you probably will have to pay again for the test and ETS proctoring (unless you are somehow able to get ETS to waive part of the cost, or move your dates without much penalty). Details on the Major Field Test may be found on the course handout linked above, and on links below. Towards the end of the semester you will receive some mock exams as practice for the final. One of these you should do under test conditions on the CASA EMCF tab, and turn in your solution before you take the final.
Some of the questions on some of this exam are not for everybody. The test itself is a race against time; and you should train yourself at guessing intelligently/eliminating choices in the multiple-choice. The questions on the Major Field Test look quite similar to those on our EMCF's. Fortunately grades on the Major Field Test which fall in the top 10 percent in the nation are rounded up by the organization that produces it to 100 $\%$ (even if plenty of mistakes are made!)

The Math Major Field test or final exam dates are May 1--3 (Wed-Fri) I believe, WE WILL DISCUSS THIS MORE IN CLASS. Location: Testing Services, The University of Houston, Room 204 Student Service Center 1, 4365 Cougar Village Drive. Phone: (713) 743-5444 Students can register at this
