Exam and Quizzes

Exams: There will be three, one-hour exams during the semester and a comprehensive, two-hour final exam at the end of the semester. The exams will be given in CASA, and will consist of a combination of multiple choice and free response questions.

CourseWare Quizzes: There will be eight to ten online CourseWare quizzes during the semester. Each quiz will be available for a specified period of time, typically one week. Quizzes can be repeated up to twenty times; only the highest score will be saved.

Daily Quizzes: Multiple choice questions will be posted on your instructor's website on the average of every other class day. The quizzes will be administered through CourseWare.

In-class Quizzes: Written quizzes, 10 to 15 minutes in length, will be given at random times.

Your CourseWare quiz, daily quiz, and in-class quiz averages will be included in the calculation of your final grade for the course.


Grading    300 points   Exams 1, 2 and 3 (100 points each);
   100 points   Quiz Average;
   200 points   Final Exam.
   600 points   Total

A: 540 - 600, B: 480 - 539, C: 420 - 479, etc.


Help

(1) Office hours and by appointment.

(2) The Department of Mathematics has a mathematics laboratory, MathLab, also known as CASA, is located in 222 Garrison. MathLab has student tutors who, on a walk-in basis, offer help with individual problems.


Attendance and other course policies

Attendance will be taken at the discretion of the instructor. Failure to attend class, or to take quizzes and/or exams, are grounds for dismissal from the course.

Calculators are not allowed in the exams or the in-class quizzes, but may be used for your homework.

Any other policy issues that may arise will be communicated to you by your instructor.
