Test 3 free response will be returned Friday in class
Test 4 is the end of next week in CASA - reserve your seat now, and
choose a time after class on Wednesday!
The final in this class is comprehensive and will be in our classroom
on the date set in the University Finals Schedulre for a 11am MWF class
You will be able to use a nongraphing calculator on the final, and you
must provide it!
Monday, November 9
Section 5.4 from today
I will show you the third technique for factoring quadratics to finish
5.4 and then we will move on to 5.5 and 5.6 on Wednesday.
Test 4 is in CASA the end of next week and covers chapters 5 and 6. Get
a seat for AFTER class on Wednesday of next week, I will still be
reviewing for the test on Wednesday in class.

Section 5.3 is self-study. If you need to review factoring, the
examples are explained in great detail.
We will start in Section 5.4 on Monday
Test 3 multiple choice is worth 60 points - the free response will be
graded next week.
Wednesday, November 4
DROP DEADLINE TODAY
Test 3 is today through Saturday in CASA - the multiple choice part is
worth 60 points - so your grade is out of 60.

Friday we will finish 5.1 and look at 5.2
Homework 9 is due Friday
The DROP DEADLINE for the fall semester is Wednesday, November 4. If
you
are an undergraduate and wish to drop a course with a W, you may do so
in your Peoplesoft account before the deadline. Once the deadline has
passed, you CANNOT drop and I CANNOT drop you. Remember that an
undergraduate is only allowed 6 W grades over the course of his or her
college career, so think before you drop.

early and turn it in! I want to see your graph of a line and inequality
so I can help us catch mistakes before we do test 3.

Homework 6- The grade in your gradebook is the grade on the paper plus
10, I did not get the points to add up to 100, oops.

We will look at sections 4.1 and 4.2 on Wednesday. Even though there is
alot of material, it should all be familiar to everybody, either from
high school algebra, or from College Algebra. I am going to run through
all the topics, but assume you have seen them.

Free response from TEST 2 will be graded by Wednesday and is worth 30
points plus
the 10 point bonus.

Test 2 multiple choice is worth 70 points.
We will start with a few examples of solving equations with fractions
and decimals, and then move on to section 3.5 on Monday.
Section 3.4 in the text is not going to be covered directly in class -
you need to work through this on your own if you need calculator
practice.
You will probably want to bring your calculator to class with you next
week so you can try the problems with me!

Notes on TEST 1 Review
Test 1 is in CASA this week- Reserve a seat for the test under
Proctored Exams on our CASA online account.
Do the CASA fingerprint and photo scan pre-registration for testing
BEFORE your test if you have not done it previously.
To take a test at CASA - Bring your COUGAR 1 CARD and a pencil - that's
all you need.
Charts and a calculator will be provided as links on the computer when
you test. If you cannot find them, ask a proctor.

CASA requires a one-time Fingerprint and Photo ID preregistration
before a student takes tests in the testing center. Read the

HOMEWORK 01 is due this Friday
in class. Print the homework off the link on the Assigned Homework page
on the website, work the problems from the online textbook in the space
provided, staple the pages together and turn it in Friday.
Test 1 will be in CASA
testing September 23-26, you can make a reservation online on your CASA
account. Log into CASA at www.casa.uh.edu and login. On
the Welcome Page click on the Proctored Exam tab on the top menu bar.
In the proctored exam page - choose make schedule. A calendar will pop
up with the open days highlighted. Choose which day you would like to
take the test, then once you click a day, choose an available time.

page. It is due in class on Friday, Septermber 11
Text sections 1.1 - 1.5 have been updated for formatting and also a
couple of interesting tables about the history of Arabic numbers.

Diagnostic Test
Make - Up Friday, September 4
at 2:00 pm in 204 SEC
If you missed the test completely, you can take the make-up of the
whole test.
If you failed a section or more than one section of the test - you can
take the retest on up to 2 sections
of the test. (your choice which 2)
If you need to retest on more than 2 sections, or if you still do not
pass a section after this make-up, the next one will be in a couple of
weeks.

class and by email.
If you missed the diagnositc test completely, email me to say you need
the make-up.

Diagnostic Test was today. If you missed it, please email me about a
make-up.
The CASA Gradebook Grade (for each part of the test) you will see after
they are graded is the number of questions you answered correctly in
each section.
A grade of 4 or higher is needed to pass each individual part of the
test.
I will return the tests in class on Monday.
Monday we will also start doing in-class activities, so you will need
to print an In-Class Activity form off the 2303 homepage
and bring it with you on Monday.
