We finished Section 1.3 and did Section 1.4 in class today. Be sure to
check out the homework page, the first assignments are due this Sunday
night.
Also, read the testing information on the CASA Welcome to Math 2303
page - we can start scheduling test 1 later this week.
On the alternate method for converting to base "b" by repeat division
by b - once the quotient is smaller than b, you stop and the LAST
QUOTIENT goes out to the side with the remainders, making it the first
digit in the answer.

We covered Section 1.2 and most of Section 1.3 in class today. I will
only ask you to read Greek and Chinese numbers with the help of the
chart, I will not expect you to take a Hindu-Arabic number and
translate it into either system (no artwork needed!!). I WILL expect
you to be able to convert back-and-forth into Babylonian and Mayan.
We will finish Mayan numbers and go on to section 1.4 on Tuesday. BRING
an ACTIVITY FORM on Tuesday, we will start working problems in class.

Day One Welcome! We talked about systems of numeration, Egyptian and
Roman numerals. Here are the notes with
answers.
Thursday, we will do 1.2 briefly and 1.3 - wait till Wedensday night to
download notes if you want copies - I am still updating!

You will need to register for a CASA account at http://www.casa.uh.edu ASAP! Your
gradebook, homework and test reservations will be made through this
account. If
you already have an account, you need not do anything. You should have
access to this course on the first day of class.
