Announcements
Tuesday, July 1 - Test 4 solutions - Version
A or Version B
Final tomorrow, July 2 at 11:00am in the classroom. You just need a
pencil. I will provide the scantrons. It is 32 multiple choice
questions that cover a little of everything.
Monday, June 30 - CHANGE IN GRADING POLICY - If the grade you receive
on the final is HIGHER than your lowest test grade, the final grade
will replace your lowest test grade.
The final still counts 24% of your course grade as in the
syllabus.
Thursday, June 26 -
Here is the last week of class schedule
Monday - Test Review for Test 4 and Cryptography Application
Tuesday - Last Day of Class
10:00 TEST 4 Blue Book needed
11:00 Final Review - handout final formula chart you
can add your own handwritten notes
Wednesday - Final 11-2 in our classroom - no blue book needed -
multiple choice
Test 4 - Lines, Properties of Mathematical Systems, Is it a group?
Finite systems by the table and modular arithmetic
Tuesday, June 24 - Test 3 solutions Version A and B.
Monday, June 23 - TEST 3 is tomorrow. It covers material from June
16-20. You will need a Blue Book. You WILL be allowed a
calculator, but no extra notes.
We have class Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week, NOT
Friday. Then, we have class on Monday and Tuesday next week, and our
final is Wednesday, July 2 at 11am in our classroom.
Test 4 is different from the final, it will be Tuesday of next week at
10:00. The final is REQUIRED for all students. It will be multiple
choice and will be comprehensive. You will be given a formula
sheet on Tuesday of next week, you will be allowed to add anything you
wish to hand-write on the formula sheet for the final.
Friday, June 20 - We did ratios and proportions and formulas today in
class. Test 3 covers up through today's material. The Extra Test 3
Practice Problems contains more problems on test 3 material. I will
work some in class on Monday and post the solutions to all of them
Monday.
Thursday, June 19 - We DO have class tomorrow, we will talk about
proportions and formulas. We will talk about graphing linear equations
on Monday, and the graphs will be on test 4 instead of test 3. TEST 3
is Tuesday, June 24 at 10:00am. It will cover order of operations,
evaluating expressions, solving linear equations, proportions and
formulas. You will need a blue book for the test.
Wednesday, June 18 - Test 2 Solutions Version A and B
The Completed Variables and Equations file is the first part of today's
notes on determining if a value for the variable is a solution to the
equation. It also includes an exponent example as asked about in class.
Tuesday, June 17 - Homework 10 will be posted tomorrow morning, I have
to leave the office early for family logistics reasons.
Monday, June 16 - Test 2 is tomorrow, June 17 at 10:00am in the
classroom. You will need a Blue Book for the test and you will NOT be
allowed to use a calculator. Test 2 covers real numbers and their
properties, which is homeworks 5-8.
Friday, June 13 - There will not be a file of review problems for test
2, but here is the list of
things you should know. We will do some review and start the algebra
unit (chapter 6 in the textbook) with the order of operations on
Monday. Test 2 is Tuesday at 10:00am. You will need a blue book and you
WILL NOT be able to use your calculator.
Thursday, June 12 - We DO have class tomorrow, we will cover the
properties of real numbers and exponents and scientific notation.
Here is
a copy of the square root activity from today.
Homework #7 and #8 will both be due Monday.
Wednesday, June 11 - We did rational numbers today, which is section
5.3 in the textbook. The Extra Fractions Examples link in the lecture
slides list is more practice doing fractions that was NOT done in
class. Remember that homeworks 5 and 6 are due tomorrow.
Test 2 will be next Tuesday, and you will NOT be allowed a calculator
(you need to know the rules for the operations with real numbers
without the calculator to do it for you)
Tuesday, June 10 - Test 1 solutions A
and B. We will do rational
numbers tomorrow.
Monday, June 9 - Test 1 is TOMORROW at 10:00 during our regular class
time. It is a 50 minute test. You will need to bring a BLUE BOOK to the
test tomorrow.
After the test, we will continue where we left off in negative numbers
and start fractions.
Change in the course calendar - Homeworks 5 and 6 are now both due
Thursday, June 12.
Homeworks 7 on Irrational numbers and 8 on properties and exponents
will be posted by tomorrow afternoon or Wed morning and will be due
next Monday. (so there will be no homework turned in on Friday, but we
WILL have class this Friday)
Friday, June 6 - We discussed prime numbers, prime factorizations, GCD
and LCM.
Test 1 covers all the material from this week, including today's
lesson. We will do some review on Monday and the test is Tuesday. You
will need a blue book for the test. I will accept Homework 3 on Monday.
Homework 3 and 4 solutions will be posted Monday after class. I
do not have internet yet at home, so if you email me a question this
weekend, I will not see it till Monday morning.
Thursday, June 5 - We discussed arithmetic with natural numbers today.
You need to know the terms for the different understandings of
division, and the understanding of multiplication as faster addition
for TEST 1, so learn those. I will NOT test over multiplication in
other bases. We have class
tomorrow, we will discuss prime numbers and prime factorization.
TEST 1 will cover up through tomorrows lecture material, and will be
next Tuesday at 10:00am.
Wednesday, June 4
1. We have class on the first three fridays of June - June 6, 13, 20!!
Check the course calendar above for homework due dates and test dates.
2. Homework #2 - the last problem will NOT be one of the ones graded
since we did not quite make it that far in class today.
3. Test 1 is Tuesday, June 10 during the first hour of class. It covers
the first week of class on systems of numeration, other bases,
arithmetic with natural numbers and primes. There will be a review time
on Monday, and the best preparation is to make sure you understand the
homework. You will need a blue book for the test (one with at least 5
pages)
