Abstract: "In my talk, I will first provide a brief introduction to CGG, as well as a practical overview of geophysics, seismic acquisition, and processing. This will include a discussion of how oil is formed, what we look for when deciding where to drill, reflection seismology, and typical steps of the processing “flow”. Following this, I’ll briefly touch on a couple of crucial, advanced topics: velocity model building/inversion and seismic data migration. To conclude, I’ll talk a little bit about what it’s like to work in industry (and at CGG in particular). My hope for the talk is to demystify the job of a geophysicist working in industry as well as to convey the excellent career opportunities available at CGG. A member of CGG’s recruiting team will accompany me to answer questions related to benefits and other aspects of being a CGG employee."
