Multilevel Preconditioners for Anisotropic Diffusion Problems

Thursday, Sep. 21, 2006
3:00 PM- 4:00 PM
Room 634 S&R1

Abstract: Accurate discretizations for diffusion equations with strongly anisotropic diffusion tensor and efficient preconditioned iterative solvers for underlying systems of algebraic equations are among the most difficult problems in numerical analysis. In this presentation,we shall discuss a new approach to designing of efficient multilevel preconditioners for finite volume discretizations of anisotropic diffusion equations in heterogeneous layered media. The research was motivated by applications in geosciences.Theoretical statements will be illustrated by numerical results.
