Research trip to Copenhagen, Denmark in 2009

The streets of Copenhagen.

More of Copenhagen.

Fredericksburg Castle in Denmark.

Me in front of a fountain inside the castle courtyard.

The church inside the castle.

On the walls of the castle are the coats of arms of all who have been granted the Order of the Elephant, the highest order in Denmark. I'm standing next to the coat of arms of Niels Bohr, the Danish physicist and Nobel laureate. Niels Bohr is one of the few people awarded the order who is neither royal born nor a foreign head of state. Bohr designed his own coat of arms, which features a yin-yang and the Latin motto "contraria sunt complementa", meaning "opposites are complementary".

Me at the math department at the University of Copenhagen.

My temporary office at the University of Copenhagen.

Soren Eilers (University of Copenhagen) and me working.

Me in the King's Garden in Copenhagen, near my hotel.

Soren Eilers (University of Copenhagen) and me at lunch.

A traditional Danish lunch; herring and eel.

Me in front of the statue of The Little Mermaid, an iconic figure in Copenhagen, placed in the Copenhagen harbor in honor of the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
