Colloquium

Abstract

In this talk, I will give a brief outline for using analytic method to determine the number of infinity components of a complete (noncompact) manifold. In particular, this was applied in my recent joint work with J. Wang in studying manifolds with positive spectrum.
A corollary of this theory is a generalization of a theorem of Witten and Yau where they proved that certain physical model has no wormhole.
