Colloquium

Abstract

I will discuss imaging and wave propagation in random waveguides, at long distances of propagation, where multiple scattering effects are significant. Wave propagation in waveguides with internal inhomogeneities has been analyzed before, so I will concentrate mostly on waveguides with rough boundaries. I will quantify explicitly the rough boundary scattering effects and compare the results with those in waveguides with interior inhomogeneities. In particular, I will explain the differences relevant to the imaging process.
