Colloquium

Leonhard Euler is widely regarded as one of the greatest mathematicians of all time. He wrote more than 800 papers and books, many of which became instant classics. Part of this talk will include a survey of Euler's works, focusing on not only his mathematics, but many of his lesser-known contributions, including his work on religion, naval science, music theory, and optics. The talk will also include a discussion of the creation of The Euler Archive, which the speaker co-founded in 2002. Some of the details of the building of this archive will be given, including the discovery and scanning of several almost-lost works of Euler in the depths of American libraries.
