Group C^*-algebras and topology of manifolds

Abstract

I will discuss how operator algebras can be used to study non-rigidity of topological manifolds. If time permits, I will also explain how elliptic operators and geometric group theory are used to bridge these two areas of mathematics. This talk will be accessible to graduate students.
