Instructor: Rebecca George, 609 PGH, bekki@math.uh.edu. Office Hours: As posted on the class webpage and discussion board and by appointment. Course Homepage: http://online.math.uh.edu/courses Text: The students in these classes will obtain their learning materials (including texts, extra electronic help, online quizzes, etc.) in the fall by using a course Access Code. Students can purchase an Access Code in the bookstore starting the Wednesday before classes begin for $47.35. After they purchase their Access Code, they can log into CourseWare at http://www.casa.uh.edu, click on their course, and input the code. Online Live Class Meetings: There will be 2 optional times for the online live lecture meetings and 2 optional times for the online live problem sessions each week. Students should attend AT LEAST ONE lecture meeting and AT LEAST ONE problem session per week, and they can attend more than one. Students will be given the 'Daily EMCF' questions (or poppers) during the lectures. These questions will only be open during the class time in which they are given. Students who do NOT attend at least one online live meeting per week will be required to complete an alternate assignment that week to replace their daily in-class grade. If you do not like your popper score from class, you can complete the alternate assignment and I will take the better of the two grades. Recitation: There is no separate recitation grade. You have signed up for both a lecture section and a recitation section. The two sections are interwoven in the course, and a grade will be given for the lecture section which represents the work in the combined classes. The lab session is a problem working session that will meet online. Homework: Homework will be assigned each week. Multiple choice homework assignments will be submitted online using EMCF on CASA. Some written homework will be collected throughout the semester. Students will submit their written homework by scanning their written work, converting it to a pdf file, and then uploading it. Instructions will be given. Daily Grades: Daily grades will be given in the online lectures and problem sessions beginning the first day of class. During that time, students will log into CourseWare and answer questions using the online EMCF. The EMCF will also be used for some homework and for alternate daily grade assignments. Online Quizzes: At least one online quiz will be given each week. You can attempt these quizzes up to 20 times, and the highest grade will be used for your score. You can access the quizzes by logging into CourseWare at http://www.casa.uh.edu. Exams: Proctored midterms and final exams will be given on campus in the CASA testing center. Please see your syllabus and course information page for dates of exams. The final exam will be comprehensive. If you outside of the Houston area, you may ask for permission to have your exams proctored at a location in your area. For more information see http://distance.uh.edu/services/exam_proctoring.html. Grades:
Attendance is strongly encouraged. Notice that a portion of your grade will be determined from daily grades from lecture. If you are unable to attend either lecture for your class, you will need to complete the alternate daily grade assignment to replace the lecture grade. (See your class syllabus for more information) Whenever possible, and in accordance with 504/ADA guidelines, we will attempt to provide reasonable academic accommodations to students who request and require them. |
