Class Updates / Reminders

·         Take Practice Test 1 (up to 20 times) until you master it by the deadline in Courseware and  take Test 1 online through your CASA account.

·         Learn your Peoplesoft ID number

·         Find the online textbook link at https://www.casa.uh.edu

·         Buy an ACCESS CODE at the UH Bookstore.  Log on to https://www.casa.uh.edu to complete your registration process.  DEADLINE to enter the code: by end of second week of class

·         This class does not require popper paper

BEST PRACTICES:

·         student should skim / read the section in the book PRIOR to watching the lecture

·         student should print the fill in the blank notes and then watch the lecture while filling in the notes

·         student should attend all live sessions when possible and watch the sessions they miss as soon as possible

·         student should then go back to the textbook and work the examples from the book

·         student should then try the corresponding homework and quizzes

It is very very tempting to just start your studying with your homework because it has a due date.  However, it is the LEAST productive way to learn.  The homework and the quizzes are designed to give you practice at the knowledge you have gained.  So GAIN THE KNOWLEDGE and THEN go PRACTICE J

Here at U of H we know that attendance is KEY to success but we offer an online learning experience to help you with your busy lives.  The problem lies right there -- BUSY lives... So while we require attendance you do have ways to make up the missed time, but it is best if you get in the habit of attending daily.

This course is really 2 courses:  Lab and Lecture and they comprise one grade but 4 credit hours.  It requires you to spend 6 hours in class every week.

3 hours for lab [meets twice a week, usually at night]

3 hours for lecture [meets twice a week, usually at night]

Lab Quizzes [with Chandi on Tu/Th]

  • There is a lab quiz due every week.
  • Attendance in lab is mandatory.  Online students that attend both lecture and lab benefit the most.
  • However, if you have to miss lab time you will have 48 hours to watch the recorded lab session and make up the questions before they are locked and answers  cannot be changed.  This is to prevent you from falling behind.
  • Recorded sessions will be provided via the CASA calendar for you to view if you must miss.
  • Questions 1 - 5 revealed in lab on Tuesday
  • Questions 6 - 10 revealed in lab on Thursday
  • Answers are entered in the EMCF tab in CASA under "Labquiz 1" for example.

Poppers [with Ms May on Mon/Wed]

  • Poppers are practice questions that are done in the live sessions.  To best prepare for class you should watch the section videos prior to the live sessions.
  • The number of popper questions vary each class but are announced in the CASA calendar.  If you miss class time you will have 48 hours to watch the recorded session and enter your answers before they are locked and cannot be changed.
  • Answers to the Poppers are entered in the EMCF tab under "Popper 1" for example.
  • NOTE:  the live sessions are different from the posted lecture videos -- if you cannot attend the recording will be placed in the CASA calendar on the appropriate date
