You can check the local PDF-copy of version 4.13, 4.20, or the latest
version, of "The Not So Short Introduction to LaTeX" by
Tobias Oetiker.
If your browser wants to download the PDF-file instead of displaying it,
take a look to the section about browsers in the HTML chapter. There you will see how to
adjust the browser so that it can handle various MIME-types (and save you
work in the future).

There is documentation offered by the LaTeX3 Project.
In particular, you can find brief description of LaTeX2e (in LaTeX
or HTML), including the changes from LaTeX2.09 to LaTeX2e.
This is the 1999 version
of that file, in PDF.

There is also a short AMS
guide (including features provided by the packages
amssymb
and amsmath
) for typesetting mathematics in LaTeX, as well as
an amsmath
user guide.

CTAN: the
"Comprehensive TeX Archive Network" and
the CTAN
Navigator (in France).
If you are a beginner, or maybe a bit lost, try here.
The other two primary CTAN nodes have web interfaces at www.tex.ac.uk in England and
dante.ctan.org in
Germany.

TUG: the "TeX Users
Group", which has been a resource for TeX users for many years.
There you will find links to more TeX resources, including information about
TeX implementations for a wide range of platforms.
You will also find there a list of other TeX users groups.

(La)TeX
navigator (in France): this used to be a site with a lot of
information, including descriptions of various packages. It has a new
structure now.
- Hypertext Help with LaTeX from the NASA Goddard
Institute for Space Studies (even rocket scientists need to read the
manual!).
