It is a classical question whether a 2-dimensional Riemannian manifold admits a local isometric embedding in 3-dimensional Euclidean spaces. The question was raised by Schlaefli in 1873. Solutions are known only for special cases when Gauss curvature possesses some stability condition. In this talk, we will discuss this question and present some new results.
