In this talk directed at mathematics students and department professors, Dr. Albanese will discuss approaches to the problem of nulling electromagnetic fields within defined regions in three-space. The nulling challenge will be presented as a problem of partial differential equations and antenna theory. He will also present a new vista concerning second and third harmonic generation in nonlinear media suggesting extended views of the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. Self-focusing and plasma filamentation will also be addressed.
