A geometric theory of chaotic phase synchronization

Kresimir Josic and Margaret Beck

In this paper we use an extension of the averaging theory to reduce a model of periodically perturbed chaotic system to a skew product of a circle map with a chaotic diffeomorphism. The reduced system is used to illustrate the variety of responses one may expect in periodically driven chaotic systems with phase coherent attractors.
