      In partnership with the UH Graduate chapter of AWM, we hosted an evening of playing board games and having fun with fellow UH Mathematics students with the goal to relax and build community among math majors at UH.

      In the three minute thesis competition we hosted, Mily Kamryn became the winner and Murad Hossen was the runner up.

      The UH Grad. Chapter of AMS and graduate students in the math department hosted an annual celebration surrounding our beloved mathematical constant, π.

      AMS hosted Dr Scott Maclachlan for a short course designed for students, researchers, and Professors to deepen their understanding of multigrid methods.

      CAPS representative Anthony Franklin, Ed. D, LPC, gave a presentation on imposter syndrome, followed by a Q&A where he engaged with graduate students to discuss imposter syndrome in academia and scientific careers.

      UH Mathematics Ph.D. student Arianna Cecco lead a workshop covering the basics of the LaTeX programming language and its usefulness in publishing technical or scientific documents.

      UH Mathematics Ph.D. student Anton Myshak lead a workshop covering the basics of the Python programming language and its applications in mathematics and the sciences.

      AMS, AWM, and Pi Mu Epsilon hosted an evening of playing board games and having fun with fellow UH Mathematics students, aiming to de-stress students and strengthen the mathematical community at UH.

    • Panel: Applying for Academic Jobs (Flyer) (Photos)

      Professors from the department shared their experiences about preparation for being in the academic job market, and what to expect when applying to various positions in the academia. They also provided a number of tips on how to put together documents which are included in the application package such as CV, research/teaching statements, cover letter, and recommendation letters.

      AMS invited some alumni of the UH Department of Mathematics to talk about what they wish they knew when they were starting their Ph.D.s, how they prepared for their life after Ph.D., specifically on applying for academic or industry positions, and what life is like after graduate school.
