Topology ---Homework so far

Homework 1: Read through Chapter 1 of the Munkres text,   particularly Sections 1--7 (you dont have to worry too much about the later sections of Munkres Chapter 1). Do Homework questions 1-5 on page 20-21 on the excerpt in the last link. Many of you will have done these before in a previous course. Due August 26.

Homework 1 Key

Homework 2 Due 9/4. Some of these questions take a long time, and a couple (6,7) would take a really long time if you did them thoroughly, which actually you are not really equipped yet to do. So I do not expect you to write much on Q 6, 7, if you do tackle these (they will not be graded).

Homework 2 Key

Homework 3 Due 9/11.

Homework 3 Key

Homework 4 Due 9/20.

Keys to Homework will henceforth be distributed in class or put on Blackboard.

Homework 5a Questions 1-6 (question 6 is Theorem 1.4.5(d)). Due 9/25.

Homework 5b Questions 7-12. Due 10/5 at noon.

Homework 6a Questions 1-7 Due 10/9. Also do the exercises before 2.1.4 and 2.1.10 (this was added on Oct 8).

Homework 6b Questions 8-10, mostly on the Cantor set. Questions 9g, 11 will not be graded. Due 10/16.

Homework 7 questions 1--7. Due 10/23.

Homework 7 remaining questions. Questions 8b-d, 13, and the harder part of Q 14 will not be graded. Due 11/13

Homework 8 Due 11/6. I will grade/look at Q 3,4,5, 7b, 8b (we will do 8a in class).

Homework 9 (for Algebraic Topology project). I will grade Q 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, but will look at the others too for completeness since this is a project.

You are not expected to get anything close to 100% on the Homework. The important thing on many of the problems is to is to engage in the struggle with them, and to try learn from them, and then read the keys and understand those. There will be lots of bonus points, so people turning in all the homeworks, and doing a fairly responsible job, should get a high final homework grade.
